Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand the experience of labor induction in primiparous women in South Korea.

Methods: Purposeful sampling and snowballing technique were used to recruit five primipara women who had gone through induction labor during the past three years. Data were collected using face-to-face interviews. van Manen¡¯s phenomenological method were adopted to analyze data.

Results: Five theme clusters were revealed: Unexperienced reality approached toward me, Artificial, not did I wished for, pain that did not cease, absence of appropriate milestones, my child is more important than myself.

Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that sufficient information and emotional support are needed for women who undergo labor induction. In addition, nursing intervention for anxiety and pain are needed.
